- Need for environmentally sound coal quality management in Kolubara coal mining.
- Significant pollution from CO2, SO2, NOX emissions due to sub-optimal quality of lignite composition mainly used in the Nikola Tesla Power Station.
Introduction of an open pit coal quality management system in the western part of the Kolubara mining basin. Coal-fired power plants should receive a uniform coal quality for energy production.
The total cost of the project is 182 million Euros (KfW: 74 million Euros, EBRD co-financing: 80 million Euros and EPS: 28 million Euros).
- enables more efficient and cleaner energy production,
- allows the reduction of CO₂ emissions by approx. 700,000 tonnes per year, SO₂ emissions by approx. 3,800 tonnes per year and NOX emissions by approx. 800 tonnes per year.
