German-Serbian Development Partnership: An Investment in the Economy and Europe’s Stability
Development cooperation with Serbia is an investment in a strategic policy for the future—for European stability, climate protection, and for Germany and Serbia’s ability to act in the areas of economic policy (with a trade volume exceeding 10 billion euros) and security policy. This is based on stable strategic partnerships and cooperation on an equal footing, also with civil society.
The Western Balkans are in the heart of the EU and Serbia is seeking membership, which is also in Germany’s interest for security and economic reasons. That is why we are supporting the country in implementing the necessary reforms, to meet EU-Standards.
Germany is investing in Serbia as a business and investment location to facilitate business operations, increase efficiency of public administration and improve the living and working conditions of citizens, through projects in the following areas:
- Green economic development
- Vocational training and employment
- Climate protection and energy supply
- Administration, law, and democracy
- Social Stability
- Peace and Stability in the Western Balkans
- Anti-corruption
These investments are being implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the BMZ (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) and the European Union.
