A two-day working meeting was organized on the topic of strengthening the transparency of the work of the Anti-Corruption Departments, within the project support of the „Facility supporting strengthening the Rule of Law in Serbia”, jointly financed by the EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation (BMZ), and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
Recognizing the importance of the role of the public in creating a positive perception of the work of the Anti-Corruption Departments, special attention was paid to the role and importance of the role of the media spokesperson/coordinator, transparent communication with the media, proactive approach in communication, as well as understanding the daily dynamics of media reporting and adapting the mode of communication for the needs of effective reporting.
The meeting was attended by over 20 media coordinators of the Anti-Corruption Departments of the Higher Courts and Higher Public Prosecutor’s Offices, with the participation of representatives of the Appellate Courts, from Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis and Kraljevo, as well as journalists and representatives of journalists’ associations, specialized in the topics of organized crime and corruption.
Based on the presented examples of good practice, proposals for overcoming existing communication barriers and in accordance with the need to understand the dynamics of media work, guidelines have been formulated that will serve as a basis for further improvement of communication, but also as a landmark for coordinators, newsrooms and the general public, in order to achieve a higher level of communication and reporting on the work of the Anti-Corruption Departments.
